A convenience fee is a small charge added when tenants pay rent through Stessa. It helps cover the costs of processing payments on the platform.
Does Stessa charge a convenience fee for rent payments?
Yes. Stessa applies a convenience fee to rent payments, depending on the payment method used.
Convenience Fee Details
How much is the convenience fee?
Credit card: 3% of the rent amount (e.g., $1,000 rent = $30 fee)
Debit card: $8 per transaction (e.g., $1,000 rent = $1,008 total)
ACH (bank transfer): $2 per transaction
Exception: There are no resident convenience fees for ACH if you use a Stessa Cash Management account to receive rent deposits. Credit card or Debit card payments into a Cash Management account will still incur the applicable card fee.
Who pays the convenience fee — the landlord or the tenant?
Tenants pay the convenience fee.
Are there any fees for landlords to receive rent?
No. Stessa Rent Collection is free for landlords.
Payment Methods
How do tenants pay rent via ACH?
Link a bank account in the Stessa resident portal by verifying with banking credentials or microdeposit.
Once linked, authorize the rent payment via ACH.
How do tenants pay rent via credit or debit card?
Add card details in the Stessa tenant portal.
Once validated, authorize the payment using that card.

Is the convenience fee refundable?
No. The convenience fee is non-refundable, even if the rent payment is canceled or reversed.
Can landlords disable certain payment methods?
No. Landlords cannot disable payment options at this time.
Where can tenants see the convenience fee before paying?
Tenants see a full fee breakdown — including the convenience fee — in the Stessa portal before confirming their rent payment.
