Linking Your Financial Accounts in Stessa

Connect your accounts for simplified tracking and reporting

Updated yesterday

Overview

Easily connect your bank accounts, credit cards and mortgage accounts to Stessa. Once connected, transactions are automatically imported and categorized in real-time for reporting, tax prep, and performance insights.

Benefits of Linking Accounts

  • Automates transaction tracking and categorization

  • Enables real-time dashboards and performance metrics

  • Powers reports like Income Statements, Net Cash Flow, and tax-ready summaries

  • Helps streamline collaboration with your CPA

Security First:
Stessa uses secure, one-way data imports. Your credentials are never stored or visible to Stessa, and nothing you do in Stessa can alter your actual financial accounts.

How to Link a Bank or Credit Card Account

  1. Go to your Connected Accounts page.

  2. Click + Add Bank.

  3. Slowly type your financial institution’s name. Select the best match (look for "Business" or "Personal" variations).

  4. Enter your online banking credentials and follow any security prompts.

  5. Once authenticated, Stessa will begin importing transactions (this may take up to 24 hours).

Assign Accounts to Properties

After linking, assign each account:

  • Directly to a property – if it serves a single property

  • At the portfolio level or "Import & Review" – if used for multiple properties

    • "Import & Review" will allow you to manually review each transaction and assign appropriately

  • Set to "Exclude from Stessa" – if unrelated to your rental activity

At anytime you can "Stop Importing" to end new data syncing while keeping historical transactions

How to Link a Mortgage Account

  1. Go to the Connected Accounts page.

  2. Click + Add Bank, then search/select your lender.

  3. Enter your login credentials and wait for authentication.

  4. If transactions don't appear within 24 hours, contact support – some lenders only provide balance data.

Note: Not all lenders support full transaction feeds. We can request expanded support on your behalf.

Common Bank Linking Issues & Solutions

1. Connected Successfully, But No Accounts Found

What’s happening: Your account looks to be connected but there are no accounts found

Try this:

  • Log in directly to your bank’s website.

  • Make sure your credentials are still valid.

  • Confirm your security questions and personal information are up to date.

  • Check for pending requests for more information from your bank

  • Then return to Stessa and try again using the secure link.

2. You're Account Won't Connect

What’s happening: Your account isn't connecting or you are getting an error.

Try this:

  • Double-check that you're using the correct login credentials.

  • Make sure to select the correct institution for the type of account you are connecting. Many banks offer both personal and business connections – selecting the wrong one will fail.

3. Connection Appears Successful, But No Transactions Import After 24 Hours

What’s happening: Something may be wrong behind the scenes, even if the connection looks fine.

Try this:

  • Do NOT delete the connection. That makes troubleshooting harder.

  • Open a chat using the blue icon in the bottom-right of your screen.

  • Let support investigate. Leaving the connection in place helps avoid duplicate transactions and tangled accounts.

4. Missing Bank Accounts

What’s happening: Only partial data shows after connecting your institution.

Try this:

  • Contact us using the blue chat icon.

  • Share which accounts are missing, and we’ll look into it further. Sometimes, it's due to bank limitations or how the institution shares data.

5. Blank Screen After Selecting Bank

What’s happening: Your browser may be blocking cookies needed to complete the connection.

Try this:

In Chrome:

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and other site data

  2. Set to “Allow all cookies”

  3. Refresh your browser and try again

In Safari:

  1. Go to Preferences > Privacy

  2. Uncheck “Block all cookies”

  3. Restart Safari and try the connection again

Once your bank is connected, you can change your cookie settings back if you'd like.
