Have you successfully connected your Stessa account to AppFolio and imported data at least once? If so, skip ahead to "Staying Connected." If you're still trying to get the initial connection set up, start with "Getting Connected."

Getting Connected

Stessa will only connect to AppFolio owner's portals. So the first thing you'll need to do is make sure that you (or your Property Manager) has enabled the owner's portal and that you have successfully logged into said owner's portal directly. The web address should look something like: https://yourPMname.appfolio.com/.

Further, Stessa only parses reports published to the owner's portal, not individual transactions. When you login to your owner's portal directly, do you see reports available? If so, Stessa should be able to parse them and import the data directly into your account. If no reports are available, then you'll need to work with your PM to make sure they are publishing regular monthly reports that Stessa can access through the owner's portal.

To establish the initial connection, just click "+ Property Manager" on your Data Connections page. Enter the owner's portal URL along with your login (usually your email address) and password.

Once the connection is established, you may need to click on "Link a Property" in the input box and tell Stessa which Property or Properties to associate the AppFolio transactions with.

Staying Connected & Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Stessa will ping your AppFolio owner's portal regularly to check for new reports. If reports are published monthly, then you'll only see fresh AppFolio transactions data once a month, usually around the 15th or 20th of the month for the immediately preceding full calendar month.

If your connection says "Action Required" in red letters or "Two-Factor Auth Required," click the "Fix It" link to re-enter your login credentials and refresh the connection. Nearly all Appfolio accounts require two-factor authentication (2FA) to be confirmed at least once every 30 days. Once re-established, it may take Stessa some time to download new reports and parse the data into new transactions.
