Stessa becomes exponentially more powerful once you securely connect your financial accounts and begin to import transaction data automatically. These secure data links are set up and managed via your Connected Accounts page.

Setting Up a New Data Source

To set up a new bank, mortgage, or credit card connection, follow the instructions in Linking Your Financial Accounts.

To set up a new property management connection, your PM will need to be using AppFolio for owner reporting via the "Owner Statement" report. If that's the case, follow the instructions in Connecting Stessa to AppFolio.

One Financial Account <> One Property

Once Stessa has established a secure connection to your financial institution, you'll need to assign each connected account to a specific Property by selecting "Import Automatically" and then the corresponding property for that specific account. Note that this assignment is required for each account as you may have more than one account for each financial institution.

By default, will automatically attempt to import transaction data from the past 6 months unless your financial institution chooses to make fewer data available. All accounts associated with Properties and all unassociated accounts not already "Excluded" will be subject to automatic data imports.

How to Edit Import Preference

To edit the import preference and property assignment, hover over the account and click the small pencil ✏️ icon to the right.

An Edit Account menu will appear, allowing you to edit the account name and update import preferences and properties.

Once you have made the desired changes, click save to complete the edit.

One Financial Account <> Multiple Properties

If you use a single bank or credit card account for transactions involving multiple Properties, you'll want to set that account to "Import and Review Manually," this will allow you to assign transactions imported from this account to whatever Property you like on a one-off basis via your Transactions page.

As mentioned above, Stessa will automatically attempt to import transaction data from the past 6 months unless your financial institution chooses to make fewer data available. All accounts associated with Properties and all unassociated accounts not already "Excluded" will be subject to automatic data imports.

Multiple Financial Accounts <> One Property

If you use multiple financial accounts to manage a single Property, you'll want to select "Import Automatically" and then the corresponding property for that specific account and repeat this setting for multiple accounts. There's no limit to how many financial accounts you can associate with a single Property.

Excluding Financial Accounts from Stessa

If you simply want to turn off an existing account and preserve all existing transaction data associated with the account, select "Stop Importing." This will prevent all future transaction activity from being imported without impacting existing data.

If you want to completely remove a financial account from Stessa and delete all associated transactions, set the account to "Exclude from Stessa." Keep in mind that this will permanently delete all existing historical transaction data. This action is not reversible.

Uploading Transactions Data via External File

If Stessa doesn't support connecting to your financial institution or wasn't able to link a particular account, you can do a bulk import of transaction data monthly or quarterly to stay current. To learn how to do this, follow the instructions in Upload Transactions Data (QIF, CSV).
