Where do I create a lease?
Go to Documents → Agreements in Stessa, then click Create a lease (or New agreement if Agreements is already unlocked on your account).
Can I see what a lease looks like before I pay?
Yes. On the unlock screen, click Preview a sample lease and choose a state from the dropdown to see a sample for that state.
What do I need before I start?
Have ready:
The property already added in Stessa
The tenant's name and email
Your contact details as landlord
Key lease terms decided in advance — rent amount, due date, start/end dates, security deposit, and any pet or smoking policies
A payment method, if you're paying the one-time fee
How long does it take to build a lease?
About 8–10 minutes for a single lease.
Does the questionnaire change based on my state?
Yes. The Rocket Lawyer questionnaire adapts to the property's state, and each state's template includes its own required disclosures — for example, California adds a Megan's Law notice and asbestos disclosure automatically.
Can I save my progress and finish later?
Yes. Your answers autosave as you go, so it's safe to exit and resume later from Documents → Agreements.
I need to fix an answer after finishing the questionnaire — do I have to start over?
No. Once the lease reaches Ready to sign, use Actions → Edit document instead of restarting the questionnaire.
What happens after I send the lease for signature?
The status changes to Awaiting signature, and each signer gets an email invite to review and sign.
Can I collect rent through Stessa once the lease is out for signature?
Yes, optionally. From the property's page:
Open the Lease details card → Edit → Rent and Payments
Choose Collect rent with Stessa (for autopay, reminders, and late fees) or Collect rent outside Stessa
Where can I track all my leases?
Documents → Agreements shows every lease's name, property, tenant, type, and status (e.g., Awaiting signature, Signed), and lets you reopen, resend, or start rent collection from the ⋮ menu on each row.
Prepaid Lease Credits
What does "You have [N] prepaid lease agreement(s). You won't be charged for this one." mean?
It confirms you have a prepaid credit available so this particular lease won't be charged. It appears every time you start a new lease, reflecting your current credit count at that moment.
Does seeing this message use up my credit right away?
No. It only confirms a credit exists when you open the dialog — the credit is applied once you complete and generate the lease, not from seeing the message.
What if I don't have a prepaid credit?
The message won't appear, and the dialog will indicate the lease will be a paid one. Check your plan or credit balance if you expected a free credit here.
Can I still preview a sample lease from this screen?
Yes. Click Preview a sample lease from the same dialog to see an example of the finished document before committing a credit or being charged.
