Adding Co-Tenants to a Lease

How to add multiple tenants to a lease agreement in Stessa and how the finished document handles them.

A lease can include more than one tenant — here's how to add co-tenants and how Stessa handles them on the finished document.

Adding Co-Tenants

Can I add more than one tenant to a lease?

Yes. On the Add tenants screen:

  1. Fill in the Primary tenant

  2. Click + Add co-tenant to add another — click it as many times as needed, there's no fixed limit

Is an email address required for every tenant?

Yes, for the Primary tenant and every co-tenant. Stessa highlights any empty Email field in red and won't let you continue until each one is filled in.

Can I reuse a tenant I've already saved in Stessa?

Yes. Typing an existing tenant's name shows them as an autosuggestion (tagged "Tenant") that you can pick directly instead of re-typing their details.

How does the finished document handle multiple tenants?

Every tenant you added appears by name throughout the lease text, and each tenant gets their own signature-and-date block at the end of the document and on attached forms like the move-in inspection checklist.

How are multiple signers distinguished when I send the lease?

Each signer — you and every tenant — is color-coded consistently from the Signer details step through the document's signature fields and the Send Invite screen.

Who signs first when there are multiple tenants?

You choose:

  • I'll sign first — signs your own copy before the tenants

  • Have others sign first (under More options) — sends invitations to the tenants without you signing yet

Can I fix a tenant's name or email after the document has already been generated?

Yes, use Actions → Edit document. If the change needs more than the guided questionnaire allows, you may need the Advanced Editor.
